Wire rope barriers have been used as road dividers and crash barriers across Australia for many years. And for just as long, motorcyclists have been calling for a comprehensive review of their use. Commonly referred to a 'cheese-cutters', these barriers have been designed to prevent vehicles from careering into on-coming traffic (or off the road surface) and are effective for that purpose.

THE PROBLEM: when a motorcyclist crashes into these barriers their safety is a serious issue. For years organisations across Australia have been concerned about increased injuries for accident victims over the use of Armco barriers and this has recently been confirmed to be a significant issue.

On 11 May 2011 an accident occurred on the Pacific Highway just North of Taree. The motorcyclist concerned crashed into a wire rope barrier and had his leg amputated as part of his treatment.

With representitives prepared to raise private members bills in both State and Federal Parliament, we need signatures NOW to show governments that this is a serious issue for voters.

With support from major motorcycling organisations and clubs, help us get the 10,000 signatures needed for our voice to be heard!

Federal member for Cowper (Coffs Harbour), Luke Hartsuyker, visited the site of this accident and talk to riders about their concerns on this issue and his proposed bill on 10 June 2011 with media and motorcycle organisation representitives in attendance.
